about

A brilliant combination of classic rock licks and power pop sensibilities that sits comfortably somewhere between both John and Jullian Lennon and T-Rex. Yes Baby Scream still deliver that laid back chilled out kind of music that they have always done, but somehow on this album things feel a little different, the guitars seem to have more bite, the vocals have just a little more urgency about them and to be honest the effect is wondrous. All ten songs on offer here are brilliant, but a couple really do stand out as something special, The Ghost Of Valerie (feat. Eric Dover of Jellyfish, Slash’sSnakepittt, Alice Cooper), What About You, Watching The End Of The World (On TV), Mental Case and Powerpop Crush, have a certain something about them that could make them powerpop classics!
Fans of Jackdaw4, John Lennon, 90's Britpop will love this album! - Sinister Angels Realm (U.K.)

Baby Scream is the international band centered around the unstoppable talent of Juan Pablo Mazzola. Since the band’s 2001 inception in Argentina. He is lead singer, song writer and guitarist. Muddy Stardust and Eric Dover both contributed to the self-titled album Baby Scream, both with guitar and backing vocals.
The 70’s rock feel of this self-titled album is a mellow journey with subtle strengths. If you like The Replacements or John Lennon you will find elements of their style here. It is a blend of classic rock and Powerpop. The song themes vary from girl troubles in "Nipone" to mental illness issues in "The Ghost of Valerie" and "Jekyll and Hyde" and the end of the world in "Watching the End of the World (on TV)." When asked about the meaning behind the band name Baby Scream Mazzola described the screams that erupt as a baby is being born, and the fear of being alive. All of Mazzola’s lyrics are rich with imagery and the musical quality of his work is superb. - Muzik Reviews (U.S.A.)

The album cover gives you a simplistic image but ‘don’t be fool by the cover’ as often been said as nothing on this album is simplistic.
Baby Scream is more like an artist working with the finest detailed water colors you can be listening to a track from this album and like two colors meeting on a water color masterpiece the sounds merge and become something different.
Juan’s vocals are just like the pure Juan’s voice I got hooked on way back in the 2008 ‘Ups & Down’ release. Like all the tracks self penned by Juan these lyrics are amazing, A dark topic which most are on this album it really gives you things to think about.
The entire album BABY SCREAM is a wonder to own an amazing colorful collection of songs that go through darkness to light in themes and sounds. Juan seems to know how to pick a theme to a song not only write/compose about it but become it so it is like owning a collection of mini plays and all acted/performed with true honesty. - Steve "Ace" Megarex (Acemegarex Promotions) (U.K.)

The Teenage Fanclub-ish "Powerpop Crush" announces Mazzola's intent, and the moody "Exile" is a treat. Additionally, the martial, staccato "Getting Better"-like beat of "Mental Case" is irresistible and the social conscience of "Watching the End of the World (on TV)" is backed up by its intelligent melody and structure. Mazzola has been known to channel John Lennon in his vocal style, and "What About You" finds him channeling the snarling Lennon of "How Do You Sleep" to good effect. Another high-quality outing that wears its influences well. - Absolute Powerpop (U.S.A.)

Juan Mazzola is letting his classic rock freak flag fly. Juan told me he got a little help from Eric Dover (Jellyfish, Sextus) here, and it’s done some good. As with the aptly titled “Powerpop Crush” the heavy riffs and multi-tracking resemble a classic Teenage Fanclub song. “Exile” is another winner, a Badfinger styled anthemic rocker. The solid song structure on “Jekyll & Hyde” has a building synth and fading chorus that would fit nicely on Pink Floyd’s Final Cut.  ”Mental Case” has a driving rhythm and nice guitar work, although Juan’s vocal gets a little overshadowed here. His approach is a nasal mix of John Lennon and Roger Waters. “Watching The End Of The World” is a good example of this, with some good orchestration amongst the chorus. Other tunes, like “Lazy” have a decent hook, and “What About You” showcases some nice guitar flourishes. Overall a good album with lots of musical depth to explore. Keep up the good work Juan! - Powerpopaholic (U.S.A.)
